TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
One Easter weekend when my mom, dad and I were driving back to Round Rock from San Antonio he saw a very bad car wreck. When I looked up I saw a truck that had flipped over several times and was upside down. My dad parked far away and told my mom and I to stay in the car. He got out of his car and ran very fast. Never seeing anything like that before, I watched immensely. I got to watch my daddy be a hero that day! I watched him pull out a man, woman and child seconds before the truck exploded. My daddy came to the car, opened the trunk of his car and when he walked off he had 3 waters, a blanket and a teddy bear in his hands. It wasn’t until that day that I realized why he always had those items in his trunk. My dad retired from law enforcement after 30 years of serving communities and Peace Officers around the state of Texas. From that day forward I knew what my calling was; it was to help people and care for people in need.
When I graduated high school I didn’t know if I wanted to work in the medical field or business field. So I began working at Central Texas Regional Blood Center while obtaining my B.S. in Human Resources Management. When I was 30 years old I worked as a caregiver in South Texas. One day, I went into a nursing home in south Texas because I was needing a certification in CPR. While I was waiting for somebody to help me, I saw a staff member drop the resident’s food on the floor, pick it up, put it back on the plate and serve it to them. That’s when I decided that I want to be in senior care, and provide great care for people like I would my own parents. Most recently I worked for child protective service as an investigator and Investigations Supervisor, and prior to that I was a Director in Assisted Living for 3 years.

WHAT INTERESTED YOU IN AUSTIN GARDENS?
When I was researching this company, I felt that I would be a great fit. I was really interested in being a part of the Vision to create beautiful, friendly senior homes in neighborhoods near resident's families. I believe that residents should be treated like our parents and grandparents. And it’s very clear our caregivers feel the same way as well.

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH?
Patience, because first of all, I have two kids. Second, I worked for the Department of Family Protective services as an Investigator and Investigations Supervisor. I wanted the kids to feel that I truly cared about them.

WHAT ARE YOU INTERESTED IN LEARNING FROM PARTNERS IN THE COMMUNITY?
I’m still looking for resources for engagement: people that sing or play an instrument, or read a book to a resident, play a game or sit outside and visit.
In the very short time that I’ve started my position at Austin Gardens I have met many wonderful community partners and referral partners. I’ve had the chance to build great working relationships with many of them. Not only are they there to assist our residents and our communities but they can help with others as well. In turn, I have the ability to help them as well. In Assisted Living, we must work as a team and network because in this amazing day and age of senior care, it takes a team; a team of professionals who truly care about each and every resident. The community we live in is mixed with age groups, so being able to assist them with resources for home health, hospice, pharmacy and much more.

WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT?
My children. I have two. My son just turned 21 in December and my daughter is 17. They are my life, my heart and my soul!
Another passion of mine is to live life to its fullest, as if each day is your last because you never know when it will be. It is very important to me and our staff to have all the residents eat meals together and engage throughout the day. We don’t let them sit in their rooms and waste away.

WHAT'S A FUN FACT PEOPLE WOULDN'T KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I am an avid horseback rider. I used to show all over the state of Texas in horse shows. I used to barrel race, show English, Western and Trail. I showed Arabian horses; they are a smaller breed but have absolutely beautiful physique and style. One of the horses I rode was 1/2 Arabian 1/2 Quarter Horse. He was magnificent standing 17 1/2 hands tall. He was a big lover and sweetheart! I have numerous trophies and rewards and ribbons and medals. Horses are my therapy. Looking into their big beautiful eyes is like looking into heaven for me.
